Dr Emma Shaw shared some of the conclusions she reached with her survey of Family History in Australia and the world in which some of BBFHS members had participated. A most interesting talk on the motivations of family historians including statistics on ages, background and reasons for researching which resounded with many of us.

Congratulations are extended to BBFHS long time member Melissa Hulbert who has become the first female president of the Society of Australian Genealogists. We wish Melissa all the best in her new role.

Ron Rathbone Award

Congratulations go to BBFHS member Leonie Bell who has been announced as the 2018 winner of the Ron Rathbone History Writing Prize sponsored by Bayside Council. Her winning entry is entitled Botany Wool. Leonie is a member of BBFHS' Writers Group and this the second time she has won the award. Dr Gary Darby received an Honourable Mention for his work.
