Video 1: Design Principles (10 minutes)
Good design is the base on which any successful presentation is built. An understanding of basic slide design principles is vital to avoid boring your audience and condemning them to ‘Death by PowerPoint.’ I illustrate some simple techniques that will give your family history presentations more impact. You will find this video useful whether you are illustrating a family history story or presenting a talk to a Family History Society audience at face-to-face meetings or on Zoom. This video is suitable for both beginners and those with some technical expertise in PowerPoint. |

Video 2: Templates (16 minutes)
Even if you have some good ideas for slide design, sometimes a little professional help is useful to create interesting slides. I will show you where to access built-in templates within PowerPoint and how to modify them to suit the needs of your story or presentation using the Design Ideas tab. I briefly look at creating your own Master Slides. I will also show you how to access templates using a free online program called Canva. |

Video 3: Enhancing Photos (11 minutes)
Sometimes the family album doesn’t have the right photo to illustrate your story. Discover where to source additional free photos for your presentation. Simply inserting a photo can create a fairly ordinary presentation. Learn how to spice up your photos using frames, cropping tools, and removing the background. |
|
Video 4: Animation (8 minutes)
If your presentation seems static, you need to introduce some animation to text and photos. Learn creative ways for the text and photos to appear and disappear. |
|
Video 5A: Transition (13 minutes)
Transition is the way one slide progresses to the next. Many presentation slides have no special transition, but the clever presenter will choose a transition effect that enhances the theme of the story. I demonstrate a selection of transitions including curtains, comb, and dissolve. You will also learn how to simulate turning the pages the pages of a book. |
|
Video 5B: Morph transition (6 minutes)
Morph transition enables you to view the same photo from different angles. It appears that the view is moving, but its all done with a static photo and a clever transition technique. When combined with text it can be used to illustrate an aspect of a family history story. I will demonstrate using morph on landscape photos. Morph transitions are available for those with Office 365 or PowerPoint 2016 or higher. |

Video 6: Video Effects (10 minutes)
Family history presentations don’t need to be static. I will show you how to find and format free short video clips to enliven your story. You can also insert a brief video clip you have taken with your phone’s camera. You don’t need a video camera or special video editing software to insert a video effect and include movement in your slides. It can all be done within the PowerPoint program |

Bonus Video 7: 3-D Effects (11 minutes)
We didn’t have time to discuss 3-D in the workshop, but this bonus video is an introduction to the topic. A 3-D model is a graphic that can be viewed from any angle. Although it is possible to create your own using the 3-D Paint program (we will not be covering this topic today), you don’t need to be a computer whizz to use them in your presentation. PowerPoint has some great, quick and easy 3-D models available. We will use morph transition to animate some and discover some free pre-animated 3-D models. You must have Office 365 to use 3-D models. |

Bonus Video 8: More on Morph (11 minutes)
Do you have a group family photo that you would like to use to tell a story about your ancestors? Talking about a static photo is boring. Enliven your photo with this easy morph technique that focuses on each person individually. Morph transitions are available for those with Office 365 or PowerPoint 2016 or higher. |
